Carter Park takes advantage of new trend in grandstand expansion

PLANT CITY, Fl., November 4, 2013 — Architects and owners alike are ‘dressing up’ stadium grandstands these days while creating valuable new storage areas around athletic facilities.  A previously unused area located beneath the grandstand understructure can now be reclaimed by installing custom sized enclosure panels or windscreens fabricated in school or team colors and logos.

GT Grandstands has recently completed projects across the country to enhance the utility and appearance of the grandstand understructure.  This previously underutilized space can now be transformed into a functional storage area for track and field equipment such as hurdles, starting blocks, football tackling dummies or tailgate supplies, to name just a few.

Recently GT Grandstands completed a grandstand renovation project at Carter Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. “As part of the new covered bleachers for the stadium at Carter Park, the client opted for a completely enclosed panel system beneath the new grandstand structure using the client’s colors.” said Judy Carty, Principal, CartyArchitecture.  “This area now provides cost effective storage for the various athletic leagues, after school programs and summer camps that utilize the park year round.”

“With storage space at a premium in most schools or athletic venues, it just made sense to take this unused space to create a functional area” said Greg Buckner, General Manager, GT Grandstands.  “The facility managers love the idea of getting additional storage and the spectators benefit from the visual promotion of team spirit. Not only do the team colors enliven the entire grandstand, but the new storage space encloses an area which tends to accumulate unsightly litter and debris.”

Using color coordinating panels that enclose one or two sides of the grandstand structure, or completely surrounding the full grandstand with windscreens decorated with a school logo, this beneficial enclosure is an effective solution that can be custom designed based on a facility’s needs and budget.
