Park Designed by Park West

Park Designed by Park West

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. – July 26, 2018 – Park West, a leading provider of landscape construction, landscape management and tree care services, recently completed landscape construction services for three office buildings owned by FivePoint Communities in the Great Park development of Irvine, Calif. The approximately 1 million-sq.-ft. project was managed by Spurlock Landscape Architects of San Diego and DPR Construction.

A striking feature of the design is a dry creek bed running throughout the property at a length of some 2,000 ft. and a width of 15 ft. that required grading, placement of boulders and application of gravel. Another feature is a spectacular, wide bridge spanning an adjacent roadway and integrated into the landscape of the property that was constructed of lightweight lithocrete. Plantings on the bridge required the use of super-lightweight soil with a foam underlay that varied in depth depending on the plantings.

The soil was pumped onto the bridge for workflow efficiency and to accommodate the structure’s weight limits. Prominent among the plantings are several large oak trees in 120-inch boxes that were craned in and strategically placed on areas that would be supported by the beams of the bridge.

Other plantings included a distinctive selection of cacti that is unusual compared to other area business facility landscapes as well as a wide palette of other species in themed areas. In addition to the new landscaping throughout the property, the project also included a sports court for basketball and volleyball.

“The project was situated on a 73-acre site and was complicated by an elevated bridge deck over a major roadway that is landscaped to be utilized as a park-like setting,” said Paul Panelli, LEED AP, Project Executive, DPR Construction. “We relied heavily on the Park West team to meet a very aggressive schedule, and they delivered. The end product was a very high-quality project and a proud client.”

Park West serves a broad base of customers throughout California and Las Vegas including property owners and developers, landscape architects, general contractors, public agencies, property managers and homeowner associations.
