Neighborhood play spaces at schools, parks and elsewhere are truly vital community resources, thrilling, enlightening, and challenging children of all ages, all day long.
As night arrives and parks close, however, these expensive investments often go unprotected and unlit. The potential result: darkness-enabled inappropriate activity. When the sun comes up, our most important childhood gathering spots sometimes have to be shut down.
This is a big issue for those responsible for managing parks, often with limited resources. Until now, the decision to install lighting on playgrounds wasn’t easy, as it was a pricey investment on its own and created unwanted light pollution that sometimes drew complaints from neighbors
And that’s why PlayPower® created PlaySoleil™.
PlaySoleil is a patent-pending, solar-powered safety light durably designed to easily fit into the posts of new and current playground structures. Shining light in a downward trajectory from atop the equipment to limit light pollution, PlaySoleil illuminates the area, discouraging unwanted after-hours activity without the need to run electricity.
Particularly during the pandemic, parks are seeing more off-hours traffic, and that potentially spells trouble. Our customers shared this concern with us, and we are committed to investing in technology that meets their needs. So, we crafted a product that’s energy efficient, inexpensive, easy to install, aesthetically pleasing and most of all, effective at lighting playground equipment from sundown to sunup.
Next-Gen Batteries
Available to order through rep agencies of Little Tikes® Commercial, Miracle® and Playworld®, PlaySoleil uses LED bulbs and latest-generation batteries to keep play spaces illuminated all night after just two hours of charging in direct sunlight.
Currently, the most common method for adding lighting to play areas is to install bollard lights or streetlights. Requiring drilling of light posts, digging of trenches for cabling and running of electricity, this option is both extremely expensive and exceedingly time-consuming.
PlaySoleil, conversely, is easy to install on either new or existing structures as there is no need to pre-drill light posts or to worry at all about electricity. The product is crafted to work seamlessly with most play equipment as its stair-step design can be secured to 3.5”, 4” or 5” (8,89cm, 10.16cm, 12.7cm) diameter posts. Its cylindrical base allows for easy integration, simply taking the place of the dome-shaped caps that would otherwise be atop the posts.
Ease of installation was a clear priority in the creation of PlaySoleil, as our customers are also increasingly limited with respect to labor. What previously required days of work to sufficiently light a playground now takes minutes.
And when installed, PlaySoleil sends a message to the community that park officials are taking security seriously. It makes patrolling easier for security guards and police, allowing them to drive by a play space or simply view it from a distance, eliminating the need to approach and shine their flashlight around the area.
With proper maintenance and security measures, playgrounds generally last for a couple of decades.
