The National Playground Contractors Association, Inc. (NPCAI) is pleased to announce that its Recreation Installation Specialist Certification (RISC) program fully aligns with the newly released ASTM Standard Guide F3699-24, further enhancing its credibility. NPCAI’s certification program meets the latest industry-standard guidelines and ensures that certified recreation installers have the most up-to-date knowledge and skills expected in the field.
The ASTM Standard Guide F3699-24 provides guidance to individuals, organizations, and manufacturers involved in training and certifying recreation area installers. It outlines the key bodies of knowledge required for recreation area installers and mandates that candidates pass an examination based on best practices, ensuring they possess the necessary technical competencies for safety and high-quality installations.
In addition to aligning with the ASTM Standard Guide, NPCAI’s RISC certification program adheres to standards set by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), making it one of the most respected certifications in the recreation installation industry.
"Our mission is to elevate the profession and ensure that every certified installer has the most up-to-date training and knowledge," said NPCAI President Kenda Daria. "The RISC certification not only prepares installers for the demands of the industry, but also reflects our ongoing dedication to safety, quality, and the future of recreation installation.
"Public schools, parks, cities, municipalities and entities responsible for playgrounds need to be concerned about the contractors who are installing playgrounds. If you are building or maintaining a public playground, make sure the company doing the installation has certified installers on staff,” said Denise Calabrese, CAE, Executive Director of NPCAI, who pointed out that all RISC certificants are listed on the NPCAI website at www.playground-contractors.org. NPCAI’s RISC program is offered online and in-person. It covers essential knowledge and requires successful completion of a test and a background check. The program and test are available in English and Spanish.
