ExerPlay, Inc.

It all started in 1973 when Farrell and Sandra Smith opened Farrell M. Smith and Associates of Tempe, Ariz. They operated it for 14 years and then sold the business in 1987 when they decided to serve a three-year church mission in Vienna, Austria.

In 1990 they returned to the eastern mountains of Albuquerque, NM, and opened ExerPlay Inc., a dealer of the Landscape Structures Inc. line of play structures. Products offered by the company also include skate park components, climbing boulders, athletic equipment, site amenities, and bleachers, shade structures and shelters, aquatic play equipment, and safety surfacing.

Nearly 30 years later, ExerPlay continues to be a leader in the recreation industry with its professional services and highest-quality products. Its territory is the New Mexico, Northern Arizona, and West and South Texas regions.

Sandra passed away in early 2006, and Farrell remarried the former Diane Case, and now he, Diane, and Farrell’s sons David and Matt make up the board of Exerplay. Since April of 2008 Daniel Gardiner of Cedar Crest, NM has been the president.

ExerPlay has also moved into film production as a partial owner of Blue Crow Productions, Inc., which has produced an award-winning film, Baptists at Our Barbecue under the direction of Farrell. The light-hearted film about embracing “cultural differences” is based on the book written by his son, Robert Farrell Smith.
