What You Need To Plan a High School Sporting Event

What You Need To Plan a High School Sporting Event

High school sports is a national pastime that people enjoy every year. But no matter which sport is your favorite, it can be stressful if you’re running the event.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Ahead, learn what you need to plan a high school sporting event.

Make Sure the Venue Has the Necessary Components for a Successful Event

Although most high schools will have everything necessary to run a successful event, be sure to check beforehand to avoid any last-minute disasters. For example, if the school doesn’t have adequate parking but is expecting a big turnout, you may need to figure out how to route traffic in the area.

If large amounts of people are parking where they shouldn’t, the city won’t be happy. You should also consider whether the school will provide staff to work the game and whether there are signs that lead attendees to their seats.

Figure Out Which Supplies You Need To Collect

When staying within budget, make a list of everything you need to purchase before game day. This includes snacks for vendors to sell, tickets, tents, tables, water bottles, hand stamps, lanyards, and even whistles.

Once you have your list ready, you should find the best suppliers of these items. If there are sponsors for the game, they might provide some items, but you’ll most likely have to purchase some things in advance.

Keep Health and Safety In Mind During Planning

Anyone helping to set up the event deserves to have their health and safety prioritized during planning. Make sure workers have a clean environment in which to work, with portable toilets and outdoor handwashing stations on the premises, especially for the food vendors.

If contractors are setting up bleachers and lights, make sure their equipment is secure to prevent any accidents from happening. Keeping everyone safe helps motivate staff members to work harder and it ensures a successful game takes place.

Find the Right Volunteers to Work During the Game

Finding motivated individuals to work during the game can be challenging if you underestimate how large the event will be. Be honest with prospective staffers about the expected turnout for the game and how long their shift will be so they know what to expect on game day. Parents of the athletes are the best source of volunteers for game day, but if that still doesn’t cover everything, offer compensation such as free food, tickets, or gifts for those who volunteer.

Once you find the right people and have your plans in place, it’s time to sell tickets! Hopefully, what you need to plan a high school sporting event is much clearer now. Following these tips will ensure that your game day is one to remember.
