Bedroom Furniture Every Child Should Have

Bedroom Furniture Every Child Should Have

After a busy day of playing and other activities, your child needs a comfortable place to crash. While naps on the couch and co-sleeping have their merits, there’s no place as comfy and private as their own bedroom. Keep reading to learn about the bedroom furniture every child should have so they can be cozy and happy in their space.

A Comfortable Mattress

After a busy day full of activities such as playing, volunteering, and cooking, your child needs to get a good night’s rest. One piece of furniture essential to that rest is a comfortable mattress. With the right mattress, your child will fall asleep better, get better sleep, and stay asleep longer, which is imperative to their growth and development. Find the best mattress for your child by considering firmness, temperature control, durability, and motion isolation.

An Appropriate Bedframe

That comfortable mattress that will help your child sleep well so they can play and learn the next day needs to be put in an appropriately sized bedframe. A toddler bed is a good idea once your child has hit the age of 2, and children up to 7 years old can use them. This is because the beds are lower to the ground and safer for children who may need to get up in the night. After the age of 7 or whenever your child has outgrown a toddler bed, you can size up to a single bed or large one, depending on what your child needs.

Different Types of Storage

Toys, books, clothes, and school supplies all need a place in your child’s bedroom so your child can access them when necessary, but also keep them organized. Depending on the age of your child, they may have more toys and soft educational items that can easily fit in a chest. Older children who have more hard books and school supplies may need a bookcase or desk. Both will need a dresser for their clothes. When purchasing a dresser, choose something that they can grow up with so that you don’t have to replace it.

Good Lighting

The last essential piece of furniture your child needs in their bedroom is good lighting. Most rooms will have overhead lighting, but additional table and floor lamps can provide the extra light necessary for homework, crafts, and safe indoor play. Nightlights or dimmable lights are a good idea for younger children who still need to get up in the night or are afraid of the dark.

Your child lives an active, exciting life, so making sure they have a comfortable place to crash is essential. While these are just four pieces of bedroom furniture every child should have, they will help your child relax and enjoy their space no matter their age.
