Trassig means “the determined child” in Norwegian and determination is exactly what we hope children will develop through rigorous, engaging outdoor play. At Trassig we have noticed today’s children increasingly displaying a preference for solitary, indoor, technological entertainment and we believe that a good playground can turn this impulse around. We seek to create environments that provide challenge and calculated risk and necessitate interacting with others. We want children to balance, spin, climb and swing. We want children to hear far off birdsong, build imaginative sandcastles and cooperate to dig tunnels. At Trassig we hope that if we create the space, they just might come outside and play.
