Swing set in a backyard rec area

Since many families are forced to stay put at home, it’s been challenging for parents to keep the kids entertained. Many summer camps and programs are canceled this year, and some families have decided to create recreational areas in their backyards. Children need daily exercise, and by installing a swimming pool, swing set, treehouse, or waterslide, you can keep the kids happy and safe.

Swimming Pools

Community and neighborhood pools were once crowded with visitors, but several have shut down or have reduced hours. Although it’s unfortunate that you can’t drop off the kids at your nearby pool, you can avoid several issues associated with public pools by installing a swimming pool on your property. Public locations experience a high volume of swimmer traffic during the summer, and sometimes, the pool’s chemical balance is not correctly maintained. When you own a pool, you control the water’s chemical levels, and you can ensure that your kids are in a safe environment. After examining inground pool prices, you can determine the size and style of the pool that will compliment your home. For younger children, you can section off the shallow end of the pool to prevent the little ones from wandering into deeper water. To keep things interesting, try organizing a water polo game with the family or hold a swimming contest.

Swing Sets and Jungle Gyms

Another excellent way to keep the kids active is to install a swing set or jungle gym. Playground equipment can provide hours of entertainment and exercise for the children, and when your kids are playing in your backyard, you don’t have to worry about them wandering off. Swing sets and jungle gyms range in style and price, and ideally, you should have a backyard fence that surrounds the playground equipment. A fence will prevent other kids from using the equipment unattended.

Water Slides

The public water parks may be closed, but you can create a miniature park in your backyard without spending a fortune on entrance fees. Water slides are a staple of summertime, and several companies offer affordable slides that come in various lengths and styles. If you want to reduce costs, you can buy plastic sheeting to create a homemade slide. Be sure to buy thick, durable sheeting that will resist tears and hold pooling water. Long slides require a significant amount of water to run smoothly, and you may have to use several hoses to keep the longer slides slick.

Treehouses

In the last year, treehouse building has increased considerably around the country. Your family can participate in the treehouse construction, or you can hire a contractor to build your structure professionally. Treehouses provide a safe area for your kids to call their own, but some homeowner associations may have restrictions on treehouse construction. Before you get your kid’s hopes up, examine your neighborhood covenant to see if a treehouse is allowed.

Your family may be burdened with the effects of cabin fever, and it isn’t easy to find an area that is safe for the kids to exercise. By creating your version of a park and rec center in your backyard, you can keep the family entertained and healthy.
